30 Years in 30 Days: Day 30- The Jersey, #30

Bias wore #34 in both high school and college.  When the Celtics drafted him, #34 was worn by Rick Carlisle.  However at the time Carlisle was a free agent and it wasn’t 100% sure he was going to be back.  And yet they opted to give Bias #30.  Would Len have kept it?  Or would he have done something like Xavier McDaniel would do a few years later, when he started with #31 but switched to his old #34 once Kevin Gamble left?

How did they agree on #30?  A CelticsLife email to former GM Jan Volk to clarify wasn't returned, leaving us to speculate.

What if Bias did opt for his #34 instead?  If he becomes what we expect then there’s an excellent chance Paul Pierce never has that number to choose from.  Speaking of Pierce, if Len had played his entire career with the Celtics, there’s a chance his career would’ve been winding down when Paul’s was getting started.  And just how cool is that?
