Celtics' Jordan Mickey selected for NBA D-League All-Star game

The Boston Celtics will have (at least) three representatives at All-Star Weekend this year. Joining Isaiah Thomas, selected to his first All-Star Game, and Marcus Smart, in the Rising Stars Challenge, will be rookie power forward Jordan Mickey, who has been selected to the D-League All-Star Game, to be held on Saturday, February 13. He will be the only Maine Red Claws player on the Eastern Conference team.

The 21-year-old Mickey has emerged as one of the top players in the league in his first season, outperforming fellow Celtics R. J. Hunter, Terry Rozier and James Young. He is averaging 17.1 points, a team-high 10.4 rebounds and a league-best 4.6 blocks in 21 games, and was named the player of the month for December.

He has recorded 14 double doubles and had a triple double on New Year's Eve against Texas, when he had 13 points, 13 boards and 10 blocked shots. At 13-12, the Red Claws are third in the Atlantic Division, just two games behind the first-place Westchester Knicks.

Mickey is one of seven players on NBA rosters who will play in the D-League All-Star game. The others are Magic point guard Keith Appling (playing for Erie), Clippers PF Jeff Ayres (Idaho), Pacers PF Rakeem Christmas (Fort Wayne), Jazz PG Erick Green (Reno), Nuggets shooting guard Sean Kilpatrick (Delaware) and Heat PF Jarnell Stokes (Sioux Falls).
