Larry Bird admits he'd get smoked by Jordan in 1-on-1... If they played today (and other good stories)
On Monday, Larry Bird called in as a guest on The Dan Patrick Show. When the topic of conversation came up that Michael Jordan claimed he could beat guys on his Hornets roster, Patrick asked Bird who would win a game of one-on-one between the two of them. Bird replied:
Could I take Jordan? Where's this going? Can I wear my hickory uniform? Boy that'd be a good game ... God, I hate to admit this, but he'd kill me. I'm 40 pounds more than I was when I played. I'm broken down. I really don’t care like I used to. I don't—I have a fight in me, but it’s not the fight I once had. But it'd be pretty close game.
Bird is now 58 years old, Jordan is 52. I highly recommend listening to the full interview (below). It includes Bird high school stories, the Pacers wearing hickory uniforms, the greatest shooters of all time and ways to prevent tanking.
