Julius Randle needs foot surgery

Yahoo- University of Kentucky forward Julius Randle, considered a top 10 pick, likely needs surgery on his right foot after the NBA draft in June, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The procedure is expected to keep Randle out six to eight weeks this summer, sources said, but there's a strong expectation within front offices that he'll be cleared for the start of training camp in the fall.

YES.

Let me rephrase. This could wind up being advantageous for the Boston Celtics. Regardless whether they keep the sixth pick for themselves, or package it with other assets to make a trade for a superstar, Julius Randle could very well be available at number six due to this injury.

The Celtics were in a similar spot with their draft pick two years ago. Jared Sullinger’s back injury was the talk of the draft and certainly affected when he was picked. Luckily for the Celtics, he fell all the way to 21 and has since become an emerging star for Boston.

According to an Eastern Conference official, Randle could drop in the first round a little bit, but it won’t be because of the surgery. Teams were informed of the injury before the pre-draft combine in Chicago in April.

The 6-foot-9 power house out of the University of Kentucky is scheduled to workout for Boston this Friday.
