Celtics to workout former UMass star Chaz Williams

According to Joshua Newman, the Celtics have scheduled a workout with former UMass star Chaz Williams on Monday.
The 5-foot-9 Brooklyn native was very consistent throughout his time at UMass. During his senior season, Williams posted averages of 15.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.6 steals. Interestingly enough, Williams was actually most effective in his sophomore season, when all of his numbers were higher than his senior season with the exception of the assist column.

Williams certainly could carve out a niche in the NBA as a crafty backup point guard, but Boston is not likely to be the place. Yes, Rajon Rondo is here, but more importantly for Chaz, Phil Pressey is also here -- and coming off an impressive rookie season.

For the first time in years, it appears the Celtics have actually found themselves a back up point guard worth holding onto in Pressey. It certainly doesn't hurt to see how Williams stacks up against other prospects in the draft, so Danny Ainge is going to take a look. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Chaz in an NBA training camp come October, but it would be if it was with the C's as long as Pressey's in town.
