Kobe Bryant's parents apologize for selling his stuff

Recently Kobe Bryant's mother gave a lot of his old memorabilia to an auction house in New Jersey for them to sell.  When Kobe learned of this he filed a lawsuit against the company, Goldin Auctions.  Goldin then filed a counter suit, claiming that Kobe's mom was the owner of the items.  In doing so they also revealed that they'd given Bryant's parents a $450,000 advance to buy a house in Las Vegas.  The case was set to go to court next week, but has now reached a settlement.  Six of the items are still going to be sold at auction, but that is apparently "less than 10%" (via ESPN LA) of what Bryant's parents originally gave to Goldin.  Kobe's mom and dad, Pamela and Joe Bryant, also issued a written apology through a publicist:

"We regret our actions and statements related to the Kobe Bryant auction memorabilia. We apologize for any misunderstanding and unintended pain we have caused our son and appreciate the financial support he has provided over the years. We also apologize to Goldin Auctions for their inadvertent involvement in this matter and thank them for their assistance."

If I ever get super rich and famous and my parents decide to auction off my old high school JV hoops jersey to buy a house in Vegas, I hope they just ask me for the money first.  But if they do it anyway and then feel bad about it afterwards, I really hope they call me up and apologize rather than have a publicist write a statement.
