Wyc Grousbeck on Paul Pierce: "I want him to keep playing for us"

A lot of attention has been put on Doc Rivers recently. While rumors that he might leave are basically just a bunch of speculation, the situation with Paul Pierce is very very real.

Pierce will be the first domino to fall in the craziest off-season the Celtics are facing since perhaps 2007. With one decision, Ainge could decide to break up the core of the last five years and move on to rebuild, or he could bring everyone back for one last run.

Apparently if it were up to Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, it would be the latter. Grousbeck joined Felger and Mazz's show on 98.5 the sports hub earlier today.

Via Chris Forsberg on twitter:
"I want to retire Paul’s number, but I don’t want to do it any time soon because I want him to keep playing for us, to be honest. I want KG back. I want Doc back. I’d love to have Rondo back. I just want to get them more help, that’s my going-in assumption."

Our Mike Dyer wrote a fantastic piece breaking down the scenarios the Celtics have in front of them. Essentialy, if Pierce stays, the Celtics are stuck with the team that they have. A team that Danny Ainge flat out acknowledged wasn't good enough to win a championship and wasn't close.

Still, Grousbeck echoes the sentiment of most Celtics fans. Nobody wants to see Paul Pierce playing in a different uniform, no matter what the facts are.
