Chad Ford mock draft: C’s pick PG Dennis Schroeder at 16

With the 2013 NBA draft almost a month away, it’s time for the mock drafts to start popping up everywhere. People are NBA draft crazy right now as the combine just finished up, and speculation of where players are going is in full force. Chad Ford of ESPN, the ‘expert’ NBA draft guy, has the C’s taking German point guard Dennis Schroeder with the 16th overall pick. Schroeder, 19 yrs. old, measures in at 6-2, 165 lbs. (yikes). He is drawing many comparisons to our own Rajon Rondo. So what does that mean? He can’t shoot? He’s a “true-point guard”?

I think that’s exactly what the Celtics need, Rajon Rondo and a project version of himself. Why not push for a player that can impact right away? We all know Doc’s track record of developing young players, a few hits but more misses. The selling point for Schroeder in his draft profiles around the Google machine is his upside, upside and upside. But take this all with a grain of salt because last year Ford had us picking Andrew Nicholson at 21 and Moe Harkless at 22. This mock is 3.0 so for his other versions he had us picking Michael Carter-Williams, Syracuse (latest mock, jumps to No. 7), and Kelly Olynyk, Gonzaga (latest mock, not selected in first round).

Here is who the rest of the so called ‘experts’ have being picked at number 16:
