Celtics snap losing streak with 93 to 92 win over Cavs

The Boston Celtics snapped their five game losing streak tonight, as they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 93 to 92 at the Quicken Loans arena. The C’s and the Cavs were both down starters with Courtney Lee and Kevin Garnett not making the trip for Boston, and Kyrie Irving missing the game for Cleveland. To compensate, the Celtics started a big lineup of Wilcox, Bass, Green, Pierce and Bradley. The big lineup combined with atrocious shooting for the Cavs helped the C’s get an early 13 point first-half lead. The Cavs hustled their way back in the game grabbing 8 first half offensive rebounds to make it a one point game going into half.

Cleveland came out of the half blazing hot to gain a double digit lead. The C’s might as well have stayed in the locker room; their offense became stagnant, often turning the ball over. Combine that with their bad defense and it was a recipe for disaster. However the Celtics put in a late fourth quarter effort to pull back close. An awful no call foul on Green almost cost the Celtics the game with under a minute left on the clock, but the C’s played good D to get one final possession with the game on the line. Jeff Green attacked the rim with 2.1 to make the buzzer beating, game winning layup.

The Cavs leading scorer tonight was Wayne Ellington who scored 16 points, but the entire squad put forward an awesome offensive effort as 6 players scored in double figures. Tyler Zeller dominated down low grabbing 9 rebounds and shooting 5 of 6 for 11 points. One of the bright spots tonight for the Celtics was Brandon Bass. He was motivated, scoring a season high 21 points and also snagging 5 rebounds. The other star was Jeff Green who put in 21, and also had the game winner like I said earlier. The Celtics return home to face the Atlanta Hawks on Friday at 7:30.
