But the hilarious part of all of this is what the obscene gesture was. Apparently as the Sixers panned the crowd for the nightly Kiss cam, they showed Wilcox on the bench. Wilcox then reportedly gave the crowd a "Philadelphia kiss", flipping off the crowd of 17,921, per NJ.com:
The Sixers have a Kiss Cam during the third quarter of every game. Usually, it spans the arena showing couples (or not) who smooch on the big board for the crowd. The gag concludes when the camera pans to the opposing bench, where players usually laugh, fake kiss or just ignore the camera. Boston's Chris Wilcox had a slightly different and less appropriate reaction. Wilcox greeted the 17,921 Wells Fargo Center fans with his middle finger. He was serenaded by boos and received an earful from an assistant coach moment's later. He might get a letter from commissioner David Stern too.
So yes Wilcox was fined, but honestly the Celts should take up a collection Wednesday night at the Garden for him to recoup his losses. Flipping off anyone from Philly is as natural as it comes, or as Paul Flannery says,
It can be argued that an obscene gesture in Philly is simply exchanging pleasantries in the local custom, but Chris Wilcox was fined 25K.
