Ray will bounce back
Around water coolers all over America today people are talking about two things; Steven Strasburg's amazing debut and the horrible shooting night Ray Allen had. Since this is a Celtics site, let's touch on the latter. Ray Ray's Game 2 and Game 3 performances are truly incredible for totally different reasons. I can't remember a bigger drop off from one game to the next in the history of sports. I could barely sleep thinking about all those missed threes, so I can only imagine how Ray must feel. Basketball is a cruel game and sometimes the shots just don't fall.
Can you imagine missing shot after shot in front of thousands of fans and millions others watching around the world and having to keep going? I'd want to curl up in a ball. This is what makes professional athletes so amazing. How do you come back from that? How do you have the guts to keep shooting? Even though Ray missed everything (literally) last night he kept shooting till the end and that is a good thing.
Would we have won if we made a few of those? Yes, but you can say that about any game. Were there some questionable foul calls? Yes, but that goes both ways. The reason we lost yesterday is because Ray just had one of those nights that happens in basketball. Anyone who has ever played the game at any level knows basketball is a rhythm sport. Sometimes you're hot, sometimes you're not. You put up every shot with the intention of making it but sometime it just doesn't fall. It's just the way it is.
Ray Allen is a professional in every sense of the word. He is resilient and is probably in the gym shooting threes as we speak. I expect a big game from him tomorrow night and for him to be a difference maker the rest of this series. Let's all remember that these players are human too. No one is perfect and one bad game is nothing to get down on a person about. Keep your head up Celtics fans, we are still in this.
