Gilbert Arenas has been suspended for the remainder of the 2009-10 season, according to a source that spoke with the Washington Post.
Arenas asked commissioner David Stern for the suspension during their Wednesday meeting.
According to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Arenas also told Stern that he would tell the players' union not to fight the suspension.
The same source said that during the meeting, Arenas asked Stern about the possibility of having the remaining four years of his six-year $111 million contract voided, to which Stern replied, "That would be left up to the team."
I actually feel bad for Arenas. He's a jokester who went too far, but he's being made an example of. Players have estimated that about 75% of fellow players own guns. Are we really to believe that Arenas is the only player to leave his gun in his locker? Gilbert is the fall guy for a league wide problem. The amount of money he will lose do to this incident is outstanding. Remember he actually took less from the Wizards so that Antawn Jamison could be resigned. How often do athletes do that? Again, what he did was dumb, but personally I think Stephen Jackson running into the stands and throwing wild punches at random fans was a lot worse and he got less than a half a season.
