Jimmy Butler has requested a trade from Timberwolves

According to Shams, Jimmy Butler wants out of Minnesota.

The Timberwolves forward told head coach Tom Thibodeau that he wants to be traded, and has a list of 1-3 teams he would be open to:

The vibe in Minnesota has been odd. Butler has publicly aired his frustrations with the team and some of the younger players who haven't seemed to have the same sense of urgency or passion on the court as Butler does. Him and Karl-Anthony Towns did not seem to be in great terms and, with a long-term contract extension looming for Towns, perhaps Butler's trade request is connected.

For the Celtics, they go way back with Jimmy Butler. Danny Ainge tried trading for the 29-year-old when the Chicago Bulls were shopping him. However, that was before the emergence of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum and the signing of Gordon Hayward. With that much depth on the wing, would the Celtics still make a move if they are one of the teams on Butler's shortlist?

UPDATE: It was later revealed that the Celtics are not on Butler's list of teams. He prefers to be traded to the Knicks, Nets, or Clippers. So much for the 20 minutes of speculation! This doesn't mean the Celtics still couldn't make an offer if they're interested, but it certainly doesn't help. Would Ainge consider going all-in on this season and trading for a Jimmy B rental?
