DeMarcus Cousins "narrowed his choices down to Golden State and Boston" before ultimately signing with the Warriors


NBA fans received a shock earlier today when it was announced that 4x All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins would sign with the Golden State Warriors for 1 year/$5.3 million using the mid-level exception.

What came as a bigger surprise to many Boston faithful was a report from ESPN's Chris Haynes that Cousins had nearly opted to head East to join the Celtics:

While Boogie has been linked with the Celtics in trade rumors for a great many years, there had been very little chatter recently among the Boston media about potentially acquiring Cousins this off-season.

Cousins is still recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, and will probably not return to the court until December or January, but the Warriors will likely not need him to be back to his regular form until the playoffs.



The Portland Trail Blazers had also expressed interest in trying to land Cousins through a sign-and-trade, but that was shut down:
