Knicks reportedly considering Cs' Jay Larranaga for head coach

When you consistently outperform expectations, it's only natural for other teams to want part of that success.

So, it should come as no surprise that the Boston Celtics may end up losing not one, but two members of their coaching staff this season if the New York Knicks decide to hire Boston Celtics assistant coach Jay Larranaga.

Earlier this season, long-time Boston Celtic coach and former big man Walter McCarty accepted an offer to become head coach of his hometown Evansville men's basketball team, a smaller university looking to develop its NCAA impact through hiring an adept local hero.

Larranaga has no ties to the Knicks I am aware of, but has a family name with a bit of cache in the sports world, as his father Jim is the coach of the University of Miami's men's basketball team, who was born in the Bronx and attended high school in Queens, but left the area before Jay was born.

Given the Knicks tendency to make splashy moves, it seems Jay's departure may not take place just yet, but he's a quality talent developer and solid tactician, so we'd better enjoy his time with the team, whether it's measured in just games, or seasons.
