Isaiah Thomas' sister Chyna killed in auto accident early this morning

Chyna Thomas, 22, sister of Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas, was killed in an automobile accident early this morning outside Tacoma, Washington.

Details are still emerging about the incident, but it appears to have been the result of the car drifting off the road and into a Jersey barrier and hitting a steel pole. Craig Sailor of the Tacoma News Tribune reports State Patrol spokesman Trooper Nick King saying:

"All of a sudden it started to drift very casually onto the left shoulder, [until it hit the Jersey barrier, and] ... vaulted the vehicle head-on into the sign post ..."

At present, he incident is still under investigation, but troopers believe Thomas fell asleep at the wheel, and report there were no signs of impairment. Isaiah Thomas' status for the Celtics' first-round opener against the Chicago Bulls tomorrow in Boston was not immediately available, but one would have to think the chances of him playing are slim to none. There is never a "good" time for this, but after such an outstanding season for Isaiah Thomas, to have to face such a tragedy on the threshold of the playoffs is unthinkable. Our hearts are with him and his family in this time of loss.
