We're still more than a month away from regular season NBA basketball, but point spreads are already available for each team's first game in 2015-16. According to sportsbook.ag, your Boston Celtics are favored by 8.5 points against the Philadelphia 76ers on October 28.
From the degen files: Celtics officially open as 8.5 point favorites on opening night against 76ers.— Rich Levine (@rich_levine) September 19, 2015
Yes, the C's are at home and the Sixers will likely once again be among the worst squads in the league, but 8.5 points is still a pretty big number. In fact, of the 14 games that night, only the Rockets (-9.5) hosting the Nuggets has a greater spread.
If I had to take a guess, I'd bet you could count on one hand the times Boston was favored by more than eight points in the past two seasons.
