Celtics assign James Young to Maine Red Claws

Newly acquired Jonas Jerebko and Luigi Datome have played strongly on the wing for the Boston Celtics in March, which may have opened the door for James Young to be reassigned to the Maine Red Claws.

Young had been seeing double digit minutes in the month of February and even into early March. But he's seen his playing time dwindle into last man off the bench status in the past week and a half.

While I want to see this kid stay with the team and gain some experience in these meaningful games, I can't argue with the decision when you look at the fact he's a shooter with virtually no defensive skills who is shooting 35% from the field and 25% from 3-point range. He's simply not getting it done.

I expect this to be another short stay for Young, who has appeared in nine games for the Red Claws this season and is averaging 23.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 steals in 33.8 minutes per game,. while shooting 51.2 percent from behind the arc.

Keep in mind at this time last year, Young was leading the Kentucky Wildcats through a Final Four run. He's still just as his last name reads, and he needs reps he'll get in Maine. That said, expect to see him back in Boston very soon, maybe even after tonight's game.
