Doc: "I don't want Rondo pacing himself"

Doc was asked today about the minutes of Rajon Rondo, which currently sit at a league-leading 41.7 per game, and he gave a good answer. Doc mentioned that he wanted to be the one pacing Rondo, and not have Rondo possibly saving himself on the court. He even gave a number that Rondo will probably sit at, "I think it’s 39, 38 but it’s not much lower than 40 but it’s in that area". Doc also mentioned how Rondo has to be "fast, quick, aggressive", an area that has been up and down for him so far this season.

I always love picking Doc's brain, and this new story is no different. Rondo has been given huge minutes for the past couple years, but his production in those minutes haven't entirely been proportionate. I have always felt that Rondo saved himself, especially on the defensive end, for the past two years when he has been on the floor. The fact that Doc is specifically pointing that out gives me confidence. The fact that Rondo has to be more "fast, quick, aggressive" also is very important, because he hasn't exactly been that so far.

Unlike previous seasons, Doc has good options for backing up Rondo. Barbosa looks as if he should be getting some more minutes behind Rondo. The main thing is that Rondo cannot have any reservations while being on the court, he is far too important to the success of the team. But be at rest fellow Celtics fans, Doc knows. How do you feel about how Doc is handling this? Sound off in the comments.
