According to Celtics.com, Boston signed 3 free agents today. Unfortunately, none are really big name players.
The Boston Celtics today announced that they have signed free agent forward/center Jamal Sampson, free agent guard/forward Gilbert Brown, and free agent forward Michael Sweetney. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Sampson, a 6'11" center/forward, last played for the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League. He played in two contests for the Legends in the 2011-12 season averaging 14.0 points, 15.0 rebound and 1.5 blocks per game. Originally drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 47th overall pick in 2002, has appeared in 72 career NBA games split between Denver, Charlotte, Sacramento, the LA Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Brown, a 6'6" guard/forward, finished his five-year career at Pittsburgh with career averages if 8.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He posted his best season last year when he averaged career-highs of 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
Sweetney, a 6'8" forward, played for Cengrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico during the 2010-11 season where he averaged 15.1 points 9.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 36 games. Originally drafted by the New York Knicks with the ninth overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, has career averages of 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 233 NBA games split between New York and Chicago.

Celtics are not going fat with these nobodies. Very disappointing signings this season.

    "far"

  3. Jenda says:

this looks like danny decided not to win the championship this year.

  4. Give me a break, Ainge is saving the MLE for someone mid season. What do you want him to do? Who's he going to sign?

    Rondo- Dooling
    Allen- Daniels- Bradley- Moore (R)
    Pierce- Green- Pavlovic- Brown
    Garnett- Bass- Johnson (R)- Sweetney
    O'Neal- Sampson- Stiemsma

That's a decent rotation, and if you see a problem at the deadline you have the cash to outbid people to fix it. Plus all these guys are 1 year veteran minimums so your not sacrificing cap space this off-season.

Well its official get banner 18 ready

  6. wally says:

G.Brown is a beast!!! and future star if he gets decent minutes, stiemsba is a beast also, there we have a lock down defense!!! bring it!!! we ready!!! 18!!!

it's hard 2 get excited when you know all these signings are all in vain. I like some of the moves Ainge has made no doubt. Bass is SOLID player, Wilcox will be solid off the bench and Green should (should) be better this year..our bench should be better but...i thought our bench was gonna be awesome last year especially after getting Green n they had no rythm to what they did what so ever. So even if they are better it all goes back 2 the starting 5 and with so many other teams improving...let's be honest the window has closed. they may have a pretty good year whatever but as far as winning another championship....I;d be willing to bet a lot of $$ barring some huge move it's just not gonna happen

and to all you dummies thinking the celtics pump rainbows out of their asshole n cant do anything wrong in your minds be real w/ yourselves. I love the celtics n watch every.single.game. And still will, it's still exciting to see young guys develop, new guys play, etc. But there is no doubt this team needs to make a power move to help them win another championship, and if they dont they at least need 2 set themselves up for the future.

  11. wally says:

in 2008 we didn't have a star all around bench, so dont be so negative!!! the only thing we need is to keep jajuan and give him minutes, this kid could be the next kg. if the new guys and the youngs are hungry then will get it!!
i trust doc, lets get it!!!! 18!!!

  12. JR says:

I think a few of these signing the past few days are for non guaranteed deals. If they're not on the roster on Christmas, we don't owe them for the season.

Doc just wants to be able to run 5 on 5 in practice

As long as we got something not cancerous to the team instead of nothing, I'm good with that. Set for Christmas game! Bring on the Knicks!

  14. tb727 says:

One of these guys at most will make the team and then be waived or traded later on in the season to open up room for someone else. I'm hoping all three make it and each play one minute, for more WTHHT articles.

  15. Brandon Wallace says:

Hey guys remember me? Remember how everyone on a certain celtics blog thought I'd be a key addition?

  16. wally says:

dallas won the champ with a bench of barea, stevenson, cardinal and haywood........ stojacovic didnt even play..... and the starters are old like us....
is think we are good!!!! we can do this!!! 18!!!

  17. shelbyl says:

People (including myself) keep forgetting about Wilcox. Even my Android autocorrects his name when I type it.

We signed the guy, right? Just making sure :)

Jamal Sampson was a naturalized candidate for the Philippine national team. He is well known for being lazy and playing "injured" at the crucial moments of a tournament.

  22. Jim R. says:

I hope Celtics keep Gilbert Brown, he could be a nice offensive burst off the bench, nice shot, great feet and quickness, runs the floor well and OK defense, which can always be fixed. He dunks so hard. I love it.
