According to an article in the New York Daily News, Kendrick Perkins has openly stated that his current Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Russell Westbrook is not as skilled as former Celtic teammate and best friend Rajon Rondo in terms of his abilities to create plays as a point guard. However, no direct quotes were provided in the article so it's unclear as to where the journalist who wrote it got his information. For Perk's sake, I hope he can develop a good chemistry with OKC since he is surrounded by a lot of extremely talented players. But it seems obvious that even though Perkins' body is in OKC, his heart is still in Boston.

As much as coach Scott Brooks chafes at GM Sam Presti's meddling, his presence in the locker room, and his demands that the Thunder continue to improve from within, the organization is a lot more concerned with how Kendrick Perkins treats Russell Westbrook.

After arriving from the Celtics last season and being looked at as the veteran leader Oklahoma City needed to take the next step to compete for a title, Perkins went hard at Westbrook with his verbal criticisms, often saying that the Thunder's playmaker couldn't match Rajon Rondo as a playmaker. Those words didn't sit well with Westbrook, who already had been criticized for shooting too much and was the subject of a benching heard-round-the-NBA when the Thunder played the Mavs in June.
The Thunder gave Perkins a new four-year deal worth $35 million, so the team is committed to him. But it would like him to ease up on Westbrook. A lot.

Perk doesn't fit with the Thunder Physically AND Mentally. Physically he can't keep up with them, Mentally he is in Boston and is nothing but a hard foul machine with some ineffective scare tactics.

Westbrook can't currently match Rondo's playmaking, but Rondo will NEVER match Westbrook's Offense and potential, he doesn't even have a decent jumper.

OKC needs someone like Chandler in the middle!

Open message to Perk: If you can't keep up with them physically, at least be a positive team player. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

"but Rondo will NEVER match Westbrook's Offense"

What chucking up a bunch of ill advised shots, I'm sure RR could match that. Don't get me wrong, I like WBrook, but don't call taking way too many shots offense, it is what it is, chucking.

  6. @anon, what do you mean when you say Rondo wont match Westbrooks offense and potential? You say that like Westbrook has a polished offensive game like Durant, or Pierce, or Bryant, etc. Like QD said, Westbrook shoots far too much ill advised shots. In the clutch he is comparable to LeBron. He is in OK shooter at best, and he is one of the top athletic guards undoubtedly. All im saying is, you seem to be giving Westbrook too much praise at this point in his career. Rondo and Westbrook both have unlimited potential and both are/will be top PGs of the next decade along with CP3, Rose, etc.

Rondo and Westbrook both have their flaws & both are very different types of PGs (Rondo being a pass-firts/defensive/team oriented type of PG, while Westbrook is a scoring PG very similar to Rose.)

& Perk is right, Westbrook isnt the playmaker Rondo is. There arent many Very Good/Great play makers in the NBA - some being Nash, Rondo, Paul, Kidd - most of the up and coming PGs focus more on scoring - Westbrook, Rose, Wall, etc.

Anonymous that said "Rondo will NEVER match Westbrook Offense" needs to stop watching rugby and start watching basketball

I know Rondo has hit fault
But losing 2 playoffs games by going 7-22 in each of them and not feeding the main star of OKC = Kevin Durant is why Perk said Westbrick will never match Rondo's skill wise.

Westbrook should just become a shooting guard.

Look at it objectively, Rose is as bad as Westbrook on taking shots, if there is anyone who gets too much credit..

Bottomline is Perk is on a new team and he needs to fit in or leave.

Rondo and Westbrook are different type of players, WB is a shooting guard and is still learning the Point position.

Perk is welcome back in Boston any day. Thanks again Danny for making one of the biggest bonehead moves of all time. Much love to the big man.

Honestly...if Boston still had Perkins, the Celtics would have smashed the Heat in 5 games, no doubts! Yup, I'm being too highly and mighty about that. We miss you #43!
