Bucks waive Damian Lillard and sign Myles Turner
Major NBA bomb on the first full day of NBA free agency as the Milwaukee Bucks have signed Myles Turner away from the defending Eastern Conference Champion Indiana Pacers. In order to do so, Milwaukee had to waive and stretch their injured second star Damian Lillard.
The Bucks will now still have to pay Lillard, but his supermax salary will now be split over the next five years. That's quite a risky win now move by the Bucks considering if Giannis decides he wants out, you'll have Lillard's dead weight salary still on the books while you do.
Ironically despite the Bucks taking this risk with their future in order to placate Antetokounmpo now with more of a contender, Giannis reportedly is not happy with this morning's shake up. Don't feel bad for Dame though as he will get to keep all his money owed, while also now getting a new additional contract from his new team and he gets to choose where to play.Lesson learned here is take whatever you can get in contract negotiations, because your overpaid contract may eventually allow you to get waived (or bought out) and make more in the future, while also allowing you to choose the team you play for. An eat your cake and have it too situation to the extreme.
