LaMelo Ball now considered a potential first overall pick in 2020 draft

If you were excited to see Lavar Ball disappear this past season (most likely due to the Los Angles Lakers and LeBron James' orders), his annoying schtick could be coming back with a vengeance this season with Lonzo Ball no longer on the Lakers and his youngest son, LaMelo, now getting buzz as a top 3 prospect in the 2020 NBA draft.

While he’s long been on the radar of hoops fans, LaMelo Ball is now being floated as a contender to be taken with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony writes that the 18-year-old’s play in Australia has wowed scouts and executives.

According to Deveney, the youngest Ball brother figures to be 6’7″ or 6’8″ when the 2020 NBA Draft rolls around next June and that’s just part of the reason why he’s vaulted from No. 24 to No. 3 in ESPN’s latest mock draft.

Even the most successful betting sites believe that LaMelo will be a great pick that will affect the odds. LaMelo is getting compared to 2019 Rookie of the Year, Luka Doncic, based on his size and all around skills. He's considered a better shooter than his brother Lonzo (who will benefit himself this season not having to share ball handling duties with LeBron James and getting to run the show on his own in New Orleans). Unfortunately while Lonzo seems like a decent kid and doesn't bloviate like his father, LaMelo has always been much more annoying. He's basically been a celebrity since he was a preteen and he seems to want to take after Lavar's personality more than his two brothers.

Reality is that just like with Lonzo, if scouts project LaMelo to be a game changer in the NBA, he will get picked high. The first overall pick seems ridiculous, but the NBA is a copy cat league.
Doncic should have been the #1 pick in the 2018 NBA draft. Teams aren't going to want to pass on another player like him. Personally I don't think that LaMelo is near the prospect as Doncic was, but apparently Sean Deveney, Jonathan Givony, and NBA scouts think he might be close. Basketball betting sites have him as a first rounder for sure.
