Why Marcus Smart actually punched a picture frame
There's been a lot of speculation about what caused Marcus Smart to punch a picture frame at a hotel in Los Angeles last week, and many believe it was caused by frustration after a narrow loss to the Lakers. But, the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett reports that the frustration stemmed from posts from a woman on social media.
Bulpett says those posts have since been deleted, but the injury to Smart's hand remains, which will sideline him for about two weeks.
Smart did take responsibility for his actions, apologizing over Twitter for letting down fans and his team:
I want to take this time to express my sincerest apologies to my teammates, coaches, and most of all the amazing Boston Celtics fans. I'm embarrassed and disappointed in my actions. I swiped at and hit a picture frame on the wall. I feel like I let all y'all down— marcus smart (@smart_MS3) January 26, 2018
I promise I will learn from this situation and come back better than ever. I love y'all and I truly appreciate all the support— marcus smart (@smart_MS3) January 26, 2018
The possibility of discipline by the Celtics is still up in the air. For now, Smart is expected back in the beginning of February.
