Daniel Theis officially signs with the Boston Celtics

Although the Boston Celtics and Daniel Theis came to an agreement on a contract several weeks ago, today the German forward has officially signed with the team:

This coming after there was some confusion this morning about roster spots as David Pick reported that the Celtics have agreed to an 'NBA comeback deal' with point guard Shane Larkin. With only 15 roster spots and two 2-way (essentially G-League) contracts available it would seem that adding Larkin would put the Celtics over that limit. With Geurschon Yabusele not yet signed to the main roster there was some question panic that he would yet again be stashed overseas but apparently that is not the case:

While teams enter camp with more players than an NBA roster can hold some of those players are merely camp invites and not signed to guaranteed contracts, but it seems likely that perhaps the Celtics will head into camp with 16 players on the books, plus the 2-way contracts, and have some competition for those last few roster spots.

As for Theis, he's an athletic 25-year old 6'9 forward from Germany who can rebound, block some shots, and flat out defend - he was in fact the Bundesliga's Defensive Player of the Year in '16-17. He's not a great shooter by any stretch but he is respectable from the outside, although he does most of his offensive work around the bucket. He can be pretty explosive in the paint.

Here's a look at Theis' highlights from the past year, including him knocking around our boy Ante Zizic in the very first clip:
