Could Marc Gasol be a trade target for Boston?

The rumor mill is in full swing, and when it comes to Memphis Grizzlies big man Marc Gasol, at least two NBA general managers reportedly believe the Boston Celtics are a potential destination for the star center.

Chris Mannix of the Vertical reports the potential fit is viewed as a realistic one by those two unnamed executives, and from a fit perspective, it makes sense. Gasol, while older, as aged well for a big man, and his perimeter shooting would be exactly the sort of bonus the rebounding-starved Celtics could use. However, at present, Boston is still trying to decide how it will fit Gordon Hayward's max salary into the cap constraints it's looking at.

The numbers suggest moving one of Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, and Jae Crowder to get there, and while combining salary could work on paper to meet the requirements of a legal trade to get Gasol to Boston, it'd require further gutting the depth of an already-thin rotation without solving (and likely exacerbating) the existing issue of fitting Hayward's new deal.

It's possible there's some truth to the interest, but given the current situation Boston is dealing with, I anticipate this is a trade deadline issue to revisit at soonest, if at all.
