Celtics have third-best odds for NBA Title next year
The NBA Finals are hardly behind us, but that hasn’t stopped the bookmakers from looking ahead to next season. The odds released by Bovada in Las Vegas recently showed the newly-crowned Golden State Warriors as favorites to regain their title while, unsurprisingly, the Cleveland Cavaliers are ranked just behind them.
However, there was a lot of love from the online betting company for the Boston Celtics, whose odds of winning next year’s Championship are greater than that of the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets amongst others. There’s belief that if a dark horse is to capture the Larry O’Brien trophy in 2018, it will be Brad Stevens’ young guns.The list comes from ESPN's Chris Forsberg's Twitter page.
Its not exactly hard to see why Boston is favored by many as one of the top teams in the NBA. Their coming off a 53-win season which seen them grab the top spot in the Eastern Conference and eventually progress as far as the Conference Finals. They also hold this year’s number one pick in the draft, and have a significant amount of cap space available to pursue a top tier free agent as well.
Boston may not win next year’s NBA Finals (or even participate in them) due to the Warriors and Cavs’ dominance over the rest of the league. But there’s no denying this is a young team on the rise whose potential is clear to see, as evidenced by the Vegas odds makers. Sooner rather than later, they should find themselves back on the big stage once again.
