Wow what a night for Isaiah Thomas as the Celtics snatched away a close one against the Miami Heat, 117-114.
The teams battled each other all night long as they answered one another point for point. The Miami Heat played very well and distributed the ball around and got many of their guys involved in the offense. For the Celtics, one man was the star of the show tonight and it was Isaiah Thomas who scored a career high 52 points and 9 three pointers.
IT got to the basket, charity stripe, and was money from beyond the arc all night long. With the game on the line in the fourth quarter with less than two minutes to go and tied at 104, Thomas took the game over and went to the basket for a buck that put Boston up 106-104 with less than two minutes to go. Immediately after, Thomas got a hand on the ball and stole the rock and got fouled and nailed two free throws to put Boston up by four, 108-104 with 1:23 left.
Up 111-106, Thomas got the ball of a pass from Crowder and took a deep three pointer that splashed the net and closed the game out for the Celtics. After a foul-free throw game the rest of the way, Boston hit their shots and took care of the Heat in a much closer game than anticipated. Coming off a back to back, the Celtics had some trouble on defense and getting back but in the end, Thomas's career game was the difference in this one.
Isaiah Thomas led the way with 52 points and 9 three pointers while Al Horford had a bounce back night with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. For the Miami Heat, James Johnson led the way in scoring with 22 points and 6 assists while Tyler Johnson also had a good night with 19 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Josh Richardson also contributed 19 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals.
The Celtics now move to 20-14 and have some time off before a Tuesday night matchup with the Utah Jazz at home in the TD Garden. Tipoff is set for 7:30pm E/T.
