Celtics to face Euroleague champion Real Madrid in preseason game

The winningest teams in NBA and Euroleague history will face off in a preseason game on October 8, when the Boston Celtics take on Real Madrid as part of the 2015 NBA Global Games. The game will take place at Real's home arena, the Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid, two days after the Celtics face Olimpia Milano in Italy.

This will be the second meeting between the 17-time NBA champions and the nine-time Euroleague champions. They first met at the same venue in the final of the 1988 McDonald's Championship, with Boston taking a 111-96 win. You can watch that game in full here:

That was Madrid's first game against an NBA team. They've played six overall, with their only win coming over the Raptors in October 2007. The C's are 3-1 in their matchups with European clubs. Their last trip overseas was in the 2012 preseason.

In May, Madrid beat Olympiacos B.C. 78-59 to win its ninth continental championship and first in 20 years. Their roster includes four former NBA players: Gustavo Ayón, Rudy Fernández, Andrés Nocioni (the MVP of the Final Four) and Sergio Rodríguez. They also have two draftees: Guillermo Hernangómez, who was taken by the 76ers in the second round last month and later traded to the Knicks, and Sergio Llull, a second-round pick by the Nuggets in 2009.
