Happy Birthday Hondo!
Happy 75th to one of the league's all-time greats! John "Hondo" Havlicek is an eight-time NBA champ, 13-time All-Star, a Finals MVP and the Celtics' all-time leader in points (26.395), games played (1,270), minutes (46,471) and pretty much every offensive category available (field goals - made and missed).
But the one play Hondo is best known for comes at the defensive end when he picked off an inbound pass in the closing seconds of the Eastern finals against Philadelphia. Fans would probably know this from the immortal recording of Celtics announcer Johnny Most screaming, "Havlicek stole the ball! It's all over... it's all over!... Havlicek stole the ball!"
That steal secured Boston's trip to the '65 Finals, where they defeated the Lakers in five games to win banner #8.
