The first ever 81 game season

Years from now some young Boston fan will be looking back through old NBA standings, and see the "1/2" next to the number of games behind that the Celtics finished in 2013.  He'll notice that the team only had 81 games that year, and wonder why.  The cancelled April 16th contest against the Indiana Pacers will be just a tiny footnote in Celtics lore, but a permanent reminder of what happened.  For the first time in league history, when the season ends tomorrow not every team will have played the same number of games.

Oddly enough just 3 days ago I wrote a post suggesting the importance of the C's winning two of their last three and finishing with a winning record.  At 41-39, now that they have only one game remaining it's a non-issue.
