Celtics Owner: Rondo will attract free agents

WEEI
As for getting players to come to Boston, Grousbeck said that having Rivers as a coach helps bring players in, but Rondo would be the key attraction for prospective free agents.

“I think having Rondo here [helps attract free agents], to be perfectly honest. If I were a basketball player … if I were thinking of coming here I would be thinking Rondo is going to deliver me the ball perfectly, he is going to steal and rebound and offensive rebound and I am going to have the ball right there and I could see my numbers going up if I was a numbers guy. So I think it is a great place to place to play basketball and I am optimistic that we are going to be able to recruit people here. I am very optimistic.”

I've been saying this for quite some time. If you were a free agent wouldn't you want to play with the best passing guard in the league, the King of Dimes? I don't see the Celtics getting a superstar in free agency this Summer. Deron Williams is the only unrestricted one available and he's signing either with the Nets or Mavs. But there are some star players that could be available in trades or sign-and-trades. Andre Iguodola, Josh Smith, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Luol Deng, Chris Bosh, Pau Gasol, and James Harden are some of the many names that could be in play.

When you trade for another's team star it's imperative to believe you can retain them once they hit free agency. The Celtics having Pierce and Ray was what made KG agree to an extension (that and huge dollars). Having Rondo (and Doc) signed for multiple years will definitely be key in attracting talent to Boston. Be patient Celtics fans and don't resist change. The C's already have 3 pieces for the future (Throw Avery Bradley in there with Rondo and Doc). Add a couple more and we could be a force to reckon with for the next 10 years. Rondo will help with this.
