With a 98-79 victory over the Washington Wizards tonight, Tom Thibodeau's Chicago Bulls have overtaken Boston for sole possession of first place in the East. Coincidentally, they accomplished the feat while wearing Celtic green.

The Celtics have stumbled lately, losing their last three of four games. The losses coming to opponents with a combined 82-118 record.

Meanwhile, Chicago is hitting their stride just at the right time. Tonight's win was the Bulls' seventh in a row. MVP-candidate Derrick Rose scored 23 points for Chicago at home against the Wizards.

The Bulls move a half-game ahead of the Celtics, who have had a consistent hold on the number one seed nearly all season.

Boston had briefly slipped a half game behind the Miami Heat close to a month ago, but reclaimed the spot with a 85-82 win over the Heat just days later on February 13th. However, the Celtics won't get their shot at the Bulls until April 7th at Chicago.

Boston also has a tough stretch ahead of them, with three back to backs on the road in the next two weeks and four total remaining this season. That could easily translate to four losses for the C's. The Celtics are just 2-8 this season on the second night of a back to back on the road. With a rough stretch ahead of them, and now trailing Chicago for the number one seed, reclaiming it is going to be a lot more difficult for Boston this time around.

Will the Bulls be the no 1 in the east???

  2. In all likelihood, yes.

We need to get healthy. When we do we'll be the team to beat no matter our position. Delonte is coming back tomorrow which is a good sign for the Celtics. Von Wafer, Shaq O'Neal and Jermaine O'Neal need to come back ASAP
    Celtics all day everyday

That just looks wrong. Why would they wear green? Just very, very wrong...

  6. I don't know why they are wearing green. Weird though, huh?

  7. Anonymous says:

either they wearing green for St Patty's or they just mocking us lol

  8. Anonymous says:

he looks bad in green. ugh

  9. I HATE those green Bulls Jerseys. Is nothing sacred any more?

  10. would really love to see us back in #1. going through miami then chicago - or the opposite (in the 2nd and 3rd rounds) is not an ideal situation at all.

i honestly thought that was photoshop. i forgot the bulls have GREEN jerseys.

    happy st. patrick's day then!

The 1st seed is most likely gone. Chicago has a great schedule ahead, and we'll lose at least 2 games.

Apparently tonite Boozer and Noah didn't play. Let's just hope that they don't play for a long while :)

  12. Bohemian says:

Jeez, people are really being optimistic here... we are just 1/2 game behind the Bulls! With Delonte back today, Shaq back next week probably and more games under the belt for the new guys I think we won't lose many more for the rest of the year. Rondo can't play worse, Pierce just had an awful game...these things don't happen often with this team.

Relax, we have big chances to get that 1st seed

  13. They do happen pretty often actually. Celtics are awful on the second night of back to backs on the road, as it says above, they've got four more of those this season. You can expect atleast four Celtics losses and less Bulls losses. It could come down to the game on April 7th, but really health is more important than first seed. Kiss it goodbye.

If both teams play well untill April 7, it'll be a great game, can't wait...

I'm more concerned making it into the playoffs healthy then getting the number one seed. And it's not like they won it Chicago will have to hold on to it for a month and they have 3 tough road games near the end of the season. We can win on the road and the Bulls are missing a sg and have no playoff experience with each other.

Best shooter in the world> Bogans
    08 Finals mvp> Deng
    Kg > Boozer

Is this the 1999 Shaq you're referring to, Tim?

Anyway, Bulls were in green for St. Patrick's day, and they do it every year. In fact, they just wore them two years ago against the Celtics. How do you forget that?

  17. Danny says:

They had to wear green to accomplish this task. NO TEAM SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO WEAR ANOTHER TEAMS COLORS!!!! EVER!! WTH STERN???? Those stupid f*#king Los....and El... jerseys are enuff!!!!!

  18. Jeniel says:

I think it is not important, because we already proved that we can go the finals even if we are not the number 1 seed.. better read this guys... http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/03/16/blogtable-celtics-or-bulls/
