Random Thoughts- Danny Works out the Multitudes

Tony Gaffney's my choice for that 15th spot.
Seems like every day we get news of someone else that Danny is working out.    Adam Morrison has been in for a couple of workouts.   KG's former teammates Trenton Hassell and Rashad McCants have been in for workouts.  Cuttino Mobley has been in for workouts.  Mario West is reportedly coming by to work out for the club.   Danny also extended camp invites to Stephane Lasme,  Jamar Smith and Chris Johnson.    With 15 already on the roster, 14 of those guaranteed,  players accepting invites to play in the Celtics camp have to be thinking more about getting seen by another team than they are of making the Celtics roster.

Players who are already signed who could be on the bubble include Celtics second round pick Luke Harangody, Von Wafer (who has just $150,000 guaranteed), Delonte West (non guaranteed) and Semih Erden.    Erden is a big question mark at this point.  He has plenty of potential and showed moments of NBA level play in the WC games for Turkey,   but he may not contribute this season on a team stacked with big men.  Although, some of those big men are a bit fragile at this point and, who knows, he may be needed if the injury bug hits before Perk returns.

And I haven't even mentioned Oliver Lafayette and Tony Gaffney, who were signed to non-guaranteed contracts on the last day of last season.   My personal thoughts are that Gaffney could be the best fit right now.   The one need that is mentioned most often in conjunction with this team is the need for a long defensive 3 who can back up Pierce.   Hassell could work out for that spot.   Morrison has never been thought of as a defender.   Gaffney's is an excellent defender and is long and has a nice mid range game to boot.  Even without experience,  I'd tame him over the other guys Danny has brought in so far.   I'd go with Delonte and Gaffney.     One thing is for sure,  Danny is setting this camp up to have some fierce competition among several players for spots on the roster.

I'm also seeing some competition for playing time and roles.   The center spot will have competition between the O'Neals for the starting role and for playing time.   There will be players like Lafayette and Delonte and Bradley vying with Nate for the back up PG spot.  Quisy will be trying to prove that last season was an aberration and trying to prove he can play.  It should be a fun camp.   Here's the pre-season schedule.

Here’s their exhibition schedule:

I posted an article to honor Johnny Most on the day he was inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasting Hall of Fame.    If you missed it, you can catch it here.   Our friends at Red's Army did some digging and found out that Johnny was never inducted into the Basketball HOF.  Chick Hearn is there,  but not Johnny.  This is a travesty and a wrong that needs to be righted.    Every Celtics fan needs to go here to sign the petition to get Johnny into the Hall.    Finally they did the right thing by DJ and inducted him into the HOF and now we need to get Johnny there!

Just 9 days now until Media day on September 27.  I can't wait!   Anyone else very, very ready for the season to start?
