Over the past couple days, there has been some controversy as to the comments of Celtics captain Paul Pierce. It all started with his on court post-game interview after Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Magic. When watching the video (below) notice he winks multiple times, once after saying, "We're coming home to close it out," and on the way into the tunnel, he yells to the Oralndo fans in the Amway Arena, "SEE YA'LL NEXT YEAR!"
However, after the game, the following tweet(message) appeared on Pierce's Twitter account, "Anybody got a BROOM?" Paul, as well as Athlete Interactive, the company that handles Pierce's media image, released statements that the tweet was from someone who hacked into his account. Although the message appears to be fake, that is not the approach Boston should have going back home for Games 3 and 4.
The Magic are a very good team, but they are currently not playing up to their potential. Stupid things like this, statements that undoubtedly get hung up in the Orlando locker room, are motivation for them to come together and make a run against the Celts. Dwight Howard didn't seem too concerned by the controversial tweet. He avoided sparking the drama and media frenzy too much, responding, "Am I supposed to have a comment on that? No, they only won two games. I mean, they can write what they want. But we're going to stay humble and stay focused. Pride comes before a fall, just know that."
The key point in Doc's statement in my opinion is not settling. Pierce and company can't be happy with winning two games against the Magic. Heck even if they do sweep them they need to stay hungry because Eastern Conference Champions is not the goal they set out for at the start of the season.
This year, KG, Pierce, Ray, and the rest of the Celtics know its NBA Champs or bust. Stephen Bailey 5/20/2010 09:25:00 PM Tweet
