Celtics "very high" on Nate Robinson

While no deal is imminent between the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks regarding Nate Robinson, multiple league sources confirmed the C's are "very high" on the diminutive guard.

Robinson signed a one-year, $4 million deal last summer which makes him a base-year player. That means the Knicks can only take back a contract or contracts that total no more than half of Robinson's salary, plus up to an additional $100,000.

The Knicks are also trying to get as far under the salary cap for this summer's LeBron James-led free agent class, which means they're not only looking to acquire expiring contracts.

There are a couple different player combinations the Celtics can use to make this happen, but the only one-for-one deal that meets those criteria would involve Tony Allen.

He is the final year of his deal which pays $2.5 million this year.

But Allen alone won't get a deal done. League sources confirmed that the Knicks are seeking a first-round pick several years down the road, with the hope being that by the time that pick comes due, the Celtics will no longer be among the NBA's elite
.
Not sure if the "very high" reference means the Celtics really want  Robinson or Robert Parish has been sharing his private stash with the C's management. Knicks are smart to ask for a Celtics pick down the road. Walsh must be kicking himself for pulling out on that deal at last year's deadline that would have sent Robinson to Sacramento with the Kings taking Jared Jeffries contract.
