Today in Celtics history: Tyler Zeller born, Parish reaches 20,000 points

Today, January 17th is the 26th anniversary of Boston Celtics Center Tyler Zeller's birth.

Zeller joined the Celtics in 2014 after the Cleveland Cavaliers traded him to Boston with a first round pick in exchange for one of Boston's heavily-protected second-round picks as part of a three-team deal that sent Jarrett Jack and Sergei Karasev to the Brooklyn Nets along with Brooklyn's draft rights to lkan Karaman and Edin Bavcic. Zeller had a career year after joining the Celts, posting up 10.2 points per game, almost double his average his last year with the Cavs, but injuries and a changing roster has seen his game at a career-low.

Hopefully, that's a temporary dip in production, as Tyler should still have his best years in front of him. Zeller comes from a big (literally) basketball family, with two brothers - Cody, with the Charlotte Hornets, and Luke, formerly with the Phoenix Suns - and an uncle, Al Eberhart, who played four seasons with the Detroit Pistons in 1970s. Happy birthday, Tyler - here's a clip of one of his better outings in green:

Today also marks the 24th anniversary of Robert "Chief"Parish becoming (at that time) the 16th player in league history to reach the 20,000 career point-plateau. The achievement came in a 98 - 95 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers in which Parish scored 14 points. Parish would play two more seasons in Boston before making stops with the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls, where Chief would win one more ring with the Michael Jordan-led squad.
