Doc Rivers says Paul Pierce's decision came down to Clippers or Celtics

The Los Angeles Clippers made some big offseason moves, maintaining their monster shot-blocker and re-shaping their bench. Among the acquisitions made GM/coach Doc Rivers is former Celtic Paul Pierce. Pierce was huge for the Washington Wizards in playoffs, burying the Raptors with several daggers and giving the Hawks a run for their money as well.

According to ESPN Boston's Chris Forsberg, however, his choice in free agency ultimately came down to two teams: the Boston Celtics or Los Angeles Clippers.

The respect both Pierce and KG hold for Doc has been plain to see since their years together in Boston. With a real chance at a ring, it's no surprise Pierce opted for the attractive situation in Los Angeles. With Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin, a great coach and a bolstered bench, the Clippers are for-real contenders. If Rivers/Pierce/Paul can do anything to get Lance Stephenson to resemble his Indiana self and limit the antics, the sky is the limit.

Still, it's pretty cool Pierce considered a return to Boston. Celtics fans would likely be overjoyed to see The Truth return some day for a final career cap, whether it's on a ten day contract or otherwise. Recall that Danny Ainge recently told Pierce that the Celts have a spot ready for him, perhaps in the front office.

While his jersey has changed a few times, it's easy to continue to root for Paul. Adding another ring to his already illustrious career would be one hell of a way to close for Pierce, who turns 38 in October. In any event, new chapters have been added but the story remains the same: Paul Pierce is, and will always be a Celtic for life.
