James Young is cleared to play

Boston rookie James Young says he's been cleared to play after suffering a concussion in a car accident right before the draft.

While it would have been great to see who the Celtics got with the No. 17 overall pick in the draft during Summer League, there's no rush for Young. He doesn't turn 19 years old until Aug. 16 and there's quite the logjam at the wing in Boston right now.

Assuming they are all still on the roster come November, guys like Jeff Green, Avery Bradley, fellow rookie Marcus Smart, Evan Turner, Marcus Thornton and yes, even Gerald Wallace will see the lion's share of minutes at the shooting guard and small forward spots.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Young is sent to the D-League for the season to keep honing his game. He oozes potential and has the tools to be a very promising player in the league. But even on this young-ish, sort of rebuilding, no idea where we're going roster, the minutes aren't there for him to develop in the NBA right now.

Here's Young having a Q&A with reporters thanks to Kentucky Wildcats TV:
