Maine Red Claws Sign Tyshawn Taylor

According to A. Sherrod Blakely, and a hand full of other sources, the Maine Red Claws have come to an agreement with former Brooklyn Net Tyshawn Taylor. While most NBA fans know him for his involvement in 'Soda Gate' there is reason to get (moderately) excited about this prospect.

Taylor is a very athletic 6'3 Point Guard who is about as quick as they come. He can create (both for himself as well as teammates), and has shown decent range with his shot. He's also capable of doing things like this. In his four years with Kansas he improved his scoring, 3 point shooting and assist totals each season. And in his short, 10 game stint with Brooklyn's D-League affiliate he averaged 21.5 points and 6.8 assists per game.

So why is he available? Dude can't take care of the ball. Throughout his college career Taylor constantly found himself at the top of the list when it came to turnovers (averaging over 3.5 a game in his senior season), and those habits haven't yet corrected themselves in limited opportunities with the Nets. And from the limited amount I've seen him (and from reports I've read) it's not just a matter of him forcing the issue, it's consistently making really, really poor decisions with the basketball in his hands.

Still, the physical ability are absolutely there for him. It'd be very interesting to see what he could do (or what he could learn) if he got the opportunity to be called up to the big roster.
