Danny Ainge "not sure" if Ray Allen's number will be retired

In what would conclude a truly great welcome back, the tribute videos of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett both ended with camera pans to the rafters where two empty spaces remain open amongst a multitude of retired numbers.

Unsurprisingly, this image subsequently triggered all kinds of Ray Allen speculation. General manager and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge admitted it is likely that Garnett and Pierce will have their numbers retired. He was not as confident about Allen. Via MassLive.com:

I'm not sure yet. I don't know the answer to that," Ainge told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich on Thursday morning when asked if he thinks Ray Allen's number will be retired.

Ainge continued to note that ownership will ultimately make the decision.

Of course, Allen took less money to sign with the Miami Heat leaving a bad taste in the mouths of many. Ainge himself even offered that "that's obviously somewhat of a factor."

"The question is did he play long enough and that kind of thing? There are a lot of great Celtics in history, and Ray Allen is certainly one of them. I know there will be consideration and discussion about that happening. We'll see."

Does Ray Allen deserve to have his number retired?
