Green Target: J.J. Hickson

Next on our Green Target list, the young and promising, J.J. Hickson. He is an undersized power forward/center that has a lot of energy. Once thought to be "untradeable" when he was an up and coming young player playing next to LeBron James in Cleveland, has now been a player that can't find himself with one team. He actually averaged a double-double last year for the Portland Trail-Blazers, with almost 13 points and 10 and a half rebounds a game in only 29 minutes. His PER 36 minutes average is 15 and a half points per game and 12 and a half rebounds! Yeah, he could be a great stats on a bad team guy, but his energy and athleticism at the age of 24 still makes him have a lot of potential. However, he still needs to develop some kind of post game.

How can we get him: He is an unrestricted free agent this summer. Portland has let it be known that they want a defensive center to play with LaMarcus Aldridge, so they might let Hickson walk. We could sign him but I am not sure how much he is willing to ask for. We are paying Bass 6 million dollars, would you pay JJ Hickson that kind of money? Maybe more?

Pros: We need big men. He has energy and is an awesome offensive rebounder by averaging 3 a game last season, something we lack. He is very athletic and is only 24. He has improved his game every year he has been in the league. He shoots 56 percent from the field. He could be great for a 3 or 4 man rotation on our squad. Energy guys will always belong in this league.

Cons: He is undersized. He can't stay on one team. He is a defensive liability. He doesn't block any shots. He might want too much money and want to be a starter, and if that is the case, he will not fit on our team.

Would I try and acquire him: No. If he wanted to be a back up and we traded Bass somewhere, then maybe, but I don't want to waste time on Hickson. We need a bigger big-man, I am tired of these undersized centers and power forwards. We need a real center in our lives.
