This is a financial move on the Celtics part as deals become guaranteed for the season tomorrow. Waiving the recently signed
Jarvis Varnado is not unexpected, but I'm disappointed to see
Kris Joseph leaving. I feel that he'll have a solid NBA career, but it is unlikely now to be for the Celtics as I don't expect him to not get picked up off waivers. These two moves give the Celtics a tiny bit more financial wiggle room in making trades at the deadline. Signing
Jason Terry to the full MLE prohibits the Celtics from going over the salary cap ceiling (which they were approaching). We'll see what the Celtics do with the minimal money saved on letting Joseph go.
