According to a report from Darren Wolfson of ESPN, the Timberwolves expect to sign restricted free agent center Greg Stiemsma.
Stiemsma, who averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 55 games with the Celtics as a rookie in 2011-12, visited with the Timberwolves at the start of the free-agency period. Wolfson reports that because the Celtics are over the salary cap they would be unable to match an offer made by Minnesota.
The Celtics extended a $1.05 million qualifying offer to Stiemsma on June 29. Reports have suggested the Timberwolves will offer Stiemsma a one-year, $3 million deal.
Its weird to say, but Stiemsma was one of the driving forces behind the Celtics late season surge last year. Without Stiemsma are you worried about the Celtics chances? Would you have given him $3 million?
