we'd be better trying to sign rookies and sophmores from other teams (second rounders that teams would probably leave to europe or the D-league anyway),
at least then in a years time they might have some decent value, and they'll be performing the same role as sasha anyway, playing 5 minutes max once a month as an extra body on the floor
I really can't see the point in signing vets to sit on the bench (a la arroyo, sasha or murph, plus plenty of others in the past), when we could sign a young players that turns into a Semih Erden or Landry Fields, worst case scenario is they turn out to be a sasha pavlovic and we're already at that point!
He's 28, a strong wing that can defend and hit the 3, knows the system fairly well, vet minimum. Could be a lot worse. Good to have sitting on your bench if something bad happens.
Can you imagine Vince Carter or any other big free agent being the 3rd stringer down at the end of the bench? First of all, I doubt they would ever want to that and if they did, it would take about 2 weeks before someone starts whining about playing time.
He's signed, so that when Marquis has to miss games, Pierce doesn't have to play 48 minutes. He's also signed so the C's can finally run a 5 on 5 scrimmage at practice. Not sure why people are up in arms about the 14/15 man.
Marquis Daniels doesn't even play Small Forward! He plays Shooting Guard! Plus we have Jeff Green to back up Paul Pierce! Brandon Bass to back up KG and Chris Wilcox to back up JO!
You people have know clue about how this stuff works. We have almost zero cap space and we cant trade anyone but our starting five. We have what we have till for at least a month.
Cheap insurance, simple as that. Better Sasha than no one, and the plus side is that he already knows the system-valuable in such a compressed season. Knows his role, won't complain, there if someone goes down. Solid, smart signing.
hahaha J. yea, this is a good signing, I expected pavlovic to stay here this season actually, given his brief but good showing here last season and low salary. you can't sign only big-name allstars people, you got a bench to fill and limited money.
You guys under think everything so much. "These 5 guys start, these 5 guys are the bench, everybody else is just extra that we should trade to get some player who is way better than all of them."
Just because you have a position filled and the backup in place doesn't mean you don't need more to fill in behind.
AND just because Danny signed Sasha Pavlovic doesn't mean he isn't talking about other stuff.
Then again what should i expect, 75% of you aren't even taking the time to make up a fake name on here. Are you all the same "Anonymous" person... put a name to your opinions so people can respond.
I never understood why Sasha didn't play enough last year. He was the best player (fulfillment/expectation ratio-wise) that we acquired during that trade that I don't want to remember. (For those who wonder, Arroyo comes second on that list, and Troy Murphy is the worst by all means.)
He has good D, and he occasionally hits a shot or two. That's more than enough for a, need I say it, 13-15th man. Really guys.
We got Wilcox! I totally foot about him among all this trade craziness.
Wilcox is definitely the decent X I was referring to in my comment above.
I'm satisfied for now, let's not forget that there will be more chips available during te season if need be.
If you think about it, this is the lineup that we were expecting to win the championship last year. We have upgraded from an emotional Baby to an emotional Bass, from a clueless Green to a Green with a clear role and familiarity with the system, from a European backup C that had knee injuries to an athletic and fighting C that is Wilcox, and the rest of the guys have a much lower average age.
It´s a good signing for the C´s. Pavlovic is a big forward that plays good D and can shoot the ball. Plus, and more importantly, he accepts the veteran minimum salary.
Now we just need a big. Carl Landry, Reggie Evans, Kwame (Przybilla is leaning towards retirement). We still have our MLE (3 million) so let´s hope we can sign someone with that money.
About Wilcox, let´s remember he had accepted the minimum too. He really wants to play here, unlike David West (I can´t believe he prefers to go to Indy, who was offering 1.5 million more but also one year less...)
Gay.
Man I hope we use him as a trading chip, I can't see this guy with our team in the long run, we need new players, a fresh new bench roster
lol
Danny,
This is a joke?
why is this player being re-signed??? this ain't the priority player for the celtics...
lmao
this is def a joke smh
why...why resign HIM I DONT UNDERSTAND THIS...go after DH make a trade do something, we lost the David West ordeal so...what the hell
Sasha over Delonte? Is there something about Delonte that we don't know??"
...

woooooooow
wtf!
Sasha is a beast. He knocks down 3s like crazy....when he gets off the bench.
Sasha and Delonte don't play the same position... Sasha is a 6'8" wing who can compete defensively, he's only 28 years old, and he's cheap.
With Marquis' injury history this signing makes A LOT of sense.
I feel like people hate on him cause he's euro.
people hate on him because, while he may be able to compete defensively, while being cheap, he really doesn't do shit!
Dude your right, i can't beleive Danny just signed him... he should have signed Vince Carter to be the cheap third string winger.
he is much better than brian scalabrine, am i right?

Danny ainge wtf are you doing,.. are you drunk???

Carl Landy? Reggie Evans? Emeka Okafor? I know they don't play the same position but Sasha is a piece of shit! We need GOOD players!
Marquis Daniels doesn't even play Small Forward! He plays Shooting Guard! Plus we have Jeff Green to back up Paul Pierce! Brandon Bass to back up KG and Chris Wilcox to back up JO!
^^ wrong marquis is a forward he was backing up pierce last year lmao do you guys watch basketball at all
It's easy to forget about Jeff Green. He has the super power to be invisible at times.
You people have know clue about how this stuff works. We have almost zero cap space and we cant trade anyone but our starting five. We have what we have till for at least a month.

I know I dont know why people are so mad about this he will be our 14-15 player? Calm down folks..we needed the ethnicity too

Good signing.. We need bodies.

JO-Garnett-Pierce-Allen-Rondo
X-Bass-Green-Daniels-Dooling
Stiemsma-JaJuan-Sasha-Bradley-Moore
If we get a decent X, I'm more than satisfied.
Disappointing.
I like Shelby's perspective...good break down (lets PRAY JO can stay healthy)
wilcox i'm guessing everyone forgot about him
right he backs up JO correct? (wilcox)
yup he does
I like our roster, we got two benches :D
Watching this video mix of Sasha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwAyFIlFpw4
He's not that bad if just given enough playing time...
Watch this video starting at 2:18 when Sasha in Boston was given the playing time against knicks.

Now all we have to do is wait.
I meant unemotional Bass. Damn you autocorrect.

Are we waiting fr the last minute before we sign delonte?
Bad taste in Women, the LeBron affair haunts him!
