And what is more, he already wanted to wear green by 2006:

Iverson thought he was headed to Boston in a draft-night trade in 2006 for Wally Szczerbiak and the seventh overall pick, a selection the Celtics eventually traded to the Trail Blazers.

“He was really looking forward to the opportunity,’’ Moore said. “And to come back there, why not come back? Why not the Celtics?’’

The Celtics also considered Iverson before he signed with the Grizzlies

As reported by the Boston Globe today, the Celtics seem to be option #1 for Iverson in his wish list. The Celtics will need to acquire many players for their bench in a limited time provided the lockout ends this week. Adding Iverson may be something Doc and Danny have already contemplated to do during these longs months of lockout:

Now, after a year off, Iverson said he is ready to end his career in a more heartening fashion. Knowing that the Celtics will be seeking help, Iverson’s manager, Gary Moore, told the Globe his client would love to come to Boston.

“I have already spoken to Allen about that and many other opportunities, and of course he would be interested in anywhere in the NBA but Boston is particularly attractive to him,’’ Moore said, “because of Danny Ainge, the organization, and one of the most respected coaches he knows in the business in Doc Rivers.

“He has the utmost respect for Doc Rivers and the current roster of players. Allen would relish the opportunity to play in that organization.’’

The prospect of Iverson wearing Celtics green may make some fans cringe. Personally I always wanted to see how Iverson would do with us, same as it happened with Shaq. Iverson has always been a me-first player and a volume shooter, but at the end of his career we may use some much needed scoring from the bench. If in shape he would be an upgrade over Arroyo and Bradley and an insurance guy for Delonte's frequent injuries. We need talent and scoring from the bench and Iverson is one of the best guards in the history of the game.

I guess it all depends on Iverson's ego, legs and heart and on Ainge's twisted mind.

The Big 4 already welcomed strong personalities such as Rasheed Wallace, Stephon Marbury and Shaquille O'Neal among others. Allen Iverson had invited Paul Pierce to his charity event programmed for this weekend. Although the event was finally delayed due to the lockout crucial events of these days, this may indicate something between the lines. Or maybe it is just speculation, but in any case some food for thought while we wait for Monday and Tuesday's players meetings.

Stay tuned for more news

the chances it works out are very small but I'd love to see him don green for a year or so.

  2. While he may have lost a few steps... this video shows all the possibilities for Iverson offensively.

He works off screens, uses the pick and roll, can beat his man 1 on 1 and draw the help for easy buckets for the big guys... way better than Nate Robinson.

He could also play WITH Rondo in a deadly small lineup with Ray Allen, Jeff Green, and KG.

Please!! I wanted Iverson, for sometime please TAKE HIM!!

Great another aging vet...we to get younger not older!

  5. JR says:

I wouldn't mind Iverson on the C's. My only reservation is that he seems to get hurt a lot more frequently in his older age. Delonte and Iverson would make a pretty dynamite backup backcourt.

    @kamalrafi what a profound statement

i think it would be a great move as it is a major upgrade over Arroyo, Bradley and Wafer, he can play the shooting guard position and play in his element at the point if rondo needed rest, Ray, Delonte or Green would work well with him as he can shoot from the perimeter and is a slasher when needed, i know over the years and in recent ones, he has frowned on practice and such but the Celtics are the ultimate veteran team with strong leaders the likes of KG, Pierce and Ray. They would keep him in line cause they all want a championship badly and know that they need to strike while the iron is hot. It makes the most sense in a time like this and Iverson was one of my favorite players growin up, seeing him finally don the Green would be great and furthers the fact and legacy that the Celtics are the home to the greatest players to ever play the game

I'll take him...only on the bench. Maybe to make up Shaq's failure! But yeah, Celtics need to get YOUNGER, and grab more Centers.

  12. CelticsAvenger says:

plus those pics with him in Celtics Green just fits and look great, no homo lol

I actually wouldn't mind this. IF WE ACTUALLY GET BASKETBALL THIS SEASON!!!

  14. tb727 says:

The ideal thing would be if he came in off the bench and was like Eddie House just better (even though he's not an Eddie House-type player; that is, he can most definitely create his own shot and isn't known as a streak-shooter). However I'd imagine he'd be an even-worse fit than Marbury. Iverson is going to the Hall of Fame one day and in his mind, he will think he should be playing ahead of Allen and Rondo.

A video game lineup is the only situation I'd see this really working.

Common guys Iverson is done. He played like a piece of .... the last couple of years. Its always the same s...t. he was a great but selfish player. but hes done! he is no ray allen or nash or g.hill or KG.

  16. Reean says:

I think with Iverson on the team it will help both AVERY AND RAJON and i think avery is destined to play some more minutes this season, and that Delonte might get his minutes reduced due to his injury frequency, but im sure delonte would still be able to produce with reduced minutes.

  17. This is a joke, right?

Not only is Iverson washed up, but there likely won't even be a damn season.

  18. Anonymous says:

i belive it would work out great the only thing is the celtics need to get younger not older sure he's a great shooter and and great player but sometime or another you need to look at the feauture and ether trade for a youger guys or draft great guys at the possions like SG SF PF C and maybe PG even though rondo is going to have a long carrer here at boston

  19. Anonymous says:

this would be a great move cause i'm not sure if anyone hasn't noticed by now but people who go on to play for the Celtics somehow change and are able to buy into the Celtics lifestyle aka Ubuntu, plus it's already widely known that Celtics are what they are, they are the ultimate unselfish team and i'm pretty sure Iverson would know that by now, there's no way he could start over what is supposed to be the next franchise player in Rajon Rondo, the only person i could see him filling in for is Ray Allen and if the season were to come back with an 72 game schedule with back to back games, the Big Three would need plenty of rest so i can kinda see that situation. But in the end, Iverson wants a ring and the Celtics are the only team where time and time again, we are constantly in the hunt ever since 2009 and in the title picture, Celtics are all about Second chances so i say give him one plus if he does bad, move his ass in a combo trade at the trade deadline

  20. God no. Don't need another old dude(I.E Shaq)

  21. Iverson isn't Nash or Grant Hill... what the hell have they done? Those guys are admired by everybody for just being in the league, meanwhile they've never won anything.

  22. Anonymous says:

yah i wanna see allen lverson play for the celtics if he does he going to paly prety good?

  23. Anonymous says:

WHY NOT IVERSON IS A GREAT BALL PLAYER A LITTLE SELFISH AT TIMES BUT HE IS GOOD AND WOULD BE WELCOMED IN BOSTON GARNETT IS GETTING OLDER AND SLOWER WE NEED SOMEONE THAT CAN HELP GARNETT OUT BESIDES RONDO

  24. Danny says:

    2 words....Stefan Marbury.....some vets can't mesh.

  25. Anonymous says:

I cannot imagine how it would feel for KG O'Neal and our other post players to work with a little room, especially late in games when Rondo's man is always hanging around due to Rondo's lack of a jump shot. NO know on Rondo, just simple truth. This season is about "right now" and if Iverson can fit in anywhere, it would be Boston and I cant help but think about a late game situation with Iverson, Ray Allen, Jeff Green, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, Tough to guard that combo and nearly impossible to double team!
