Pistons Tab Frank for Head Coach

According to Marc Stein on ESPN, the Detroit Pistons have offered their head coaching position to Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank.  Former Detroit assistant Mike Woodson was also a finalist but reports out of Detroit are that Frank emerged as their choice.   He is expected to receive a formal offer within the next two days.

Frank takes over a team in turmoil.  Last season there were reports of  locker-room tension and strained relations between the Coach John Kuester and his players.  There was also the mysterious benching of Rip Hamilton and reports of players refusing to dress or play.  Detroit finished last season with a 30-52 record.

This leaves the Celtics coaching staff with a couple of holes, the biggest being lead assistant and defensive coordinator.  This past season, Lawrence Frank filled that position after Tom Thibodeau accepted the head coaching job in Chicago.  Now, once again Doc will need to find a defensive minded coach in order to keep defense the Celtics priority.    The Celtics also recently lost another assistant,  Darren Erman, who left to join Mark Jackson's staff in Golden State. They also released big man coach Roy Rodgers.
