According to Ridiculous Upside,   Doc Rivers' extension wasn't the only move that Danny Ainge made today.  He also hired his son, Austin Ainge as the new Director of Player Personnel. Austin has spent the past two seasons as coach of the Celtics D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.  This isn't the first time Ainge's son Austin has worked in the Celtics front office. He was a scout prior to his two-years as coach of the Red Claws. Among his duties in that position, he worked with Celtics rookies J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker while they were on assignment with the Utah Flash in the D-League.

The 29-year-old Ainge also served as an assistant coach at Southern Utah University following his playing career with BYU. At BYU, he was a two-time team captain leading the team to two Mountain West Conference championships, three NCAA tournaments and one NIT appearance. The younger Ainge was named All-Conference Honorable Mention twice. During the 2006-07 season he led the MWC in 3-point field goal percentage and was one of the best three-point shooters in the nation.

Others who have filled the position of Boston's director of player personnel include Leo Papile who is now the senior director of basketball operations for the Celtics and Ryan McDonough who is now assistant general manager. In his position as director of player personnel, McDonough spent time overseas scouting keeping a close eye on Semih Erden during the FIBA tournament last year.

Don't know a lot about him, but I know he coached all those summer league teams the past few years or so. He honestly didn't blow me away, but my opinion is based off of 30 second interview clips that I've seen so who knows. He grew up in a basketball house and honestly Danny Ainge gets a lot of criticism but he's the reason why we have the '08 title so people need to back off.

  2. Marcello says:

He got lucky... The real reason we got the 08 tittle can be given to McHale

  3. ThomasJ says:

Yes maybe Ainge does deserve credit for '08 since being a former Celtic teammate and friend of McHale probably helped the KG trade happen. No title without that. Fortunately Seattle wanted Green with that #5 pick in the Allen trade or Ainge was ready to pick Yi Jianlian, who is useless these days.

  4. Danny says:

Austin Ainge....member of the lucky sperm club.

  5. DH says:

So both Danny and Doc have sons named Austin? Unless they are siamese twin love children of Doc and Danny.

  6. Celtics18 says:

Next Austin Rivers to Celtics nation!!
