Quantcast

Over the last 10 days we've seen Danny Ainge's plan take form. We now can see why, at least in theory, he traded Perk.  On paper, it seems like a smart move. Jeff Green has the potential to be a star  and Krstic used to be a borderline All Star himself.  Not to mention the acquisition of proven NBA veteran Troy Murphy. It seems like the Celtics came away winners.

However, in no other sport is chemistry more important than in basketball. Everyone needs to be on the same page, especially on the defensive end. Chemistry is something that can't be taught. It can improve over time and with practice, but at the end of the day it's an intangible that can't be measured. You either have it or you don't.

Perk was part of the best team defense this league has seen in many years. He was Garnett's partner in controlling the lane. He was their muscle, he was their toughness. He was a true Boston Celtic. Can the Celtics emulate that again with their new players? Probably not in time for the playoffs. However, that doesn't mean they can't win the title, it just means they can't win the same way.

We weren't going to win with the team we had two weeks ago. The playoffs will be harder than ever this year, and you can't expect Pierce to log 40+minutes night in and night out. While our chemistry will take a hit at first, I think the new guys all have high basketball IQ's and Garnett and the rest of the Big 4 will demand perfection out of them.  In Danny I still trust. Let's just hope the new faces come together in time for the playoff run.

Yeah, Our biggest obstacle is geeting them acclimated in time for the play-offs, and getting everybody on the court... I believe we'll get it done, and once we do, I still see nobody beating us in a 7-game series.... #TeamCeltics

We lost a home against LA because Von Wafer was guarding Kobe we didn't have any SF's other than Pierce. We weren't gonna win the title like that and we don't need Perk to win a title, we traded to injured players for 2 potential allstars and whens the last time Perk had 20 points for us? Green played huge in the Golden State game for us with 21 points. So with a whole different team really we can build chemistry other than the 4 allstars we already have who will be logging the most minutes in the playoffs

I don't agree with this line. I think we could have traded Semih and a pick and gotten a solid wing like Battier or Parker to backup Pierce and we'd get Banner 18. We still might with Green and Curly, but let's not go overboard. Just my opinion.

This was never even a possible trade.
Its GREAT trade and will be in the coming years.

Actually Cleveland wanted Semih for Parker and Ainge was refusing to include Semih. Houston also wanted Semih. Obviously once we got Green the need for either wasn't there anymore.

I agree with JR in that this team as constructed definitely could've won a title. Celts traded 1/3 of its roster. Not sure it was necessary or there's enough time to have the new guys blend in. It hasn't been done for a team that's won a championship in the past 30+ years that I can remember.

    It'll be interesting.

Perk's not the same Perk and may never be again. I meant we wouldn't win without a backup SF. Would've been nice to keep Perk and then get Battier.

  8. Tim says:

Were better with Shaq, people are overreacting to this. We traded 3 injured players for legit role players. Chicago is our biggest threat and KG will play better than Boozer in May and Noah doesn't have a post game when it becomes a halfcourt offense.

  9. This is a nice unbiased article. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
