Sources say that the Knicks were looking to bring a fourth team into the deal in order to unload Corey Brewer. Several teams were interested, including the Celtics, but New York couldn't work things out.

One source said that Celtics GM Danny Ainge was actually trying to recruit a fifth team to take Nate Robinson and a Boston first-round pick to complete the deal for Brewer. However, by the end of the afternoon, the Knicks decided to pull the trigger on the deal with Brewer going to New York.
Not the best offseason for Ainge as it seems he overpaid for Nate (as we mentioned at the time) and can't find a team to take him off our hands. Brewer would have been a nice defensive wing to add and would have kept Pierce fresher for the playoffs. The other free agent signings, JO, Shaq, and Delonte have been mostly unable to play and Marquis is most likely out for the year. All four of these guys had injury red flags. The one free agent that is doing well is Tony Allen, but somehow those negotiations were fumbled and he took his talents to Memphis (26 points and 8 rebounds tonight).

Brewer has a lot of the skills that TA had, but it's doubtful the C's can pull of a deal for him now that he's in New York. And we know D'Antoni isn't taking Nate back. One name that has popped up a couple times the past day or so is Dahntay Jones of the Pacers. A.Sherod Blakely of CSNNE most recently mentioned him as a serious possibility. Stay tuned. We definitely need someone.

I don't know about Dahntay Jones's current form, but his early reviews suggest that he had a "defensive specialist" tag on him. He might be an important role player under Doc's guidance.

And yes, we definitely need someone, so I'd take him. Hope it works out.

It would have been awesome to land Brewer for that package...too bad it didn't work. We need someone and we will see if it is through trade (deadline in 20hrs?) or via buyout (see Murphy, Hamilton...or Posey)

Not sold on Dahntay Jones- is he really better than Wafer? I would take Battier, Josh Howard (if he's healthy) or Rasual Butler. Even Parker. Don't want anything to do with Brewer.

Then again Nate Robinson is god-awful so I guess I'd take Brewer for him lol

  4. JR says:

Thing is TB, the C's need more than Wafer. Guys get hurt and you need depth. Dahntay Jones would provide that.

  5. tb727 says:

Yes but there's only 15 roster spots lol.

I really don't think Jones is an upgrade over Wafer.

  6. JR says:

Marquis buyout. If they trade for another wing it's b/c he's done.
